Frequently Asked Questions

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Unfortunately the thought of needles puts many people off acupuncture!  Often people associate needles with those used by GPs during bloodtests/vaccinations. The needles used during an acupuncture treatment are very fine.  Insertion of the needle is painless.  Most people find the treatment very relaxing and pleasurable.

What Can I Expect During My First Treatment?

The first treatment is 90 minutes long.  Padma will take your personal and health history.  She will take your pulses and blood pressure and look at your tongue.  In chinese medicine the state of the physical health is directly affected by the state of ones spiritual and emotional health.  Therefore Padma may ask you what seem like irrelvant questions - they are not!  Padma will then treat you.

How Can I Prepare For My Treatment?

Please ensure you eat before the treatment.  It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing as this will aid relaxation.  Padma will offer you the use of a gown should you prefer this.  Following treatment give yourself time to relax if possible.  Please also bring details of any medication you are taking with you.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Padma reccommends that you follow up your initial consultation with 2 further treatments on a weekly basis.  During this time you will feel the benefits of acupuncture and this will allow Padma to create an individualised treatment plan.  Everyone reacts to treatment differently.  Some people feel major benefits following the first treatment.  Others need more treatments. Depending on your complaint, your diet and lifestyle will also effect how many treatments you need.
